Research Project Proposal

You must submit a short project proposal (one page or less) before starting on your research project. Please list the following in your proposal:

• Your group members
• Your research question(s)
• The data that you will use for your project
• What model(s) do you plan on using, and how you will evaluate your results?
• What is your minimum viable product?
• What are your stretch goals?

Be especially careful when choosing data; make sure that if you are planning to use data that is mentioned in a paper, you are able to download it freely without having to reach out to the authors.

If you are planning on getting data from a social media site like Twitter, make sure you talk to Laura to understand restrictions on which data and how much data can be accessed.

When defining your minimum viable product, you should try to come up with the simplest possible version of your project - something that you think should take at most two or three afternoon research sessions. Because research is open-ended, you might encounter unexpected challenges, and you’ll want to ensure that you have something to be proud of to present even if there are roadblocks.

Your stretch goals, meanwhile, will be what you would really like to complete if everything goes as planned!
